Pictures at an excavation

Archaeologists excavate the past. Any photographs that appear are usually for publication, examples of a change in soil colour, a cleaned section, or a special find.

The excavation takes place as if by magic. Rarely is there a shovel or bucket to be seen, and as for people, they don't exist! These photographs were an attempt to show the different faces of an excavation, some of the work that goes into it, and the contributions of people in the present as well as the past.

An extended version of this exhibition was displayed at the Atrium Gallery, Bournemouth University, and Dorchester Museum.
